Burdick & Associates Wins Three International Landscape Design Awards
(MAY 2018) HARRISBURG, PA – The Association of Professional Landscape Designers (APLD) recently released the award winners of its annual international landscape design competition. A panel of judges reviewed the entrants’ work anonymously – looking at before and after photographs and project summaries – without knowing the names of the designers. Categories included Small Gardens, Show Gardens and Residential Landscapes (under and above $100,000).

Green Roof Car Cave
Bobbie Burdick of Burdick & Associates, Ellsworth, Maine, won a Gold award for her project, “Green Roof Car Cave,” in the Specialty Projects category.
This standout project, located in Northeast Harbor, Maine, caught the judges’ attention for its unique and special design that combines form and function. One judge said that the car cave blends seamlessly into the overall landscape. “This is a brilliant design. Careful testing and use of native plants that fade into the adjacent landscape is a terrific way to disguise the car cave. Using the same materials as the existing stone wall and respect of the home’s architecture make this a cohesive design!”

Residential Design Category
While the gold award specifically honored Burdick’s car cave, the entire garden received a silver award. The judges agreed that the garden had, “well-conceived plantings that help reinforce design cohesion; and that the designer made excellent use of space and used appropriate regional materials.”

Details Category
“Loon Point,” located in Lincolnville, Maine earned a Silver award in the Details category. The judges loved the naturalistic design of this pool down to its last detail; and praised the integration of new plantings with the existing environment.
Burdick & Associates will receive the awards at the APLD annual conference in September in Toronto, ON.
